Lawndale Creek
Location: Wilkin County, MN
Funding: Lessard-Sams 2010
Contact: Headwaters Chapter
Goals: Restoration of habitat, historical hydrologic patterns and water table while also creating flood storage. Work occurred in 3.5 miles of stream in the Atherton Wildlife Management Area.
Methods:
• Removal of sediment from historic channel.
• Withdrawal of entire base flow held by farmer by providing a replacement irrigation source via well-pump upgrade and piping.
• Stocking of brook trout.
Implementation: Construction was completed summer of 2011 and stocking occurred January of 2012.
Project Contributors: Trout Unlimited, Minnesota DNR, and the Buffalo-Red River Watershed District (which provided in-kind services for ditch improvement and some project management).
